Tuesday, May 20

So we meet again... First off I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend and I also hope the Rugby girls that missed today are having fun kicking butt.

So we began todays class by making a schedule for the rest of the classes leading up to the exam. Not a whole lot of learnin left until we begin review.. Time flies! Anyway the calender below shows what we have left and that we will still be having a test three days before the exam and hopefully 5 days of review can be squeezed in.

Remember... Do not bug Mr. Max for your results until at least the week after.. Then bug him all you possibly can.
The last of the probability examples were shown today as Max showed us some conditional probability problems.

Here are the final cumalitive exercises on probability assigned. And he has yet to do a homework check on exercises 39-41. So make sure you're up to date on all your assignments and be sure to look at your pre-test as we have a test coming up!! If your not quite sick of math yet then there are also the old exams which I strongly encourage everyone to take a peek at.

Farewell! Until next time...

Thursday, May 15

Hey! Yesterday was *Darlene day* and i was hoping to scribe for you all. I didn't have a chance but I noticed no one else had so I'll post it up now... Better late than never eh?

Well anyway yesterday we continued probability and learned about dependent and independent events. Indepent means if two or more events occur, the first one has no effect on the second event.
A dependent event means the outcome of the first event will effect the outcome of the second event.

Two events are known to be mutually exclusive if there outcomes have no common elements.
Two mutually inclusive events can happen at the same time.

Remember to do your homework on exercises 40 and 41. Chances are there'll be a homework check in the near future. Also accelerated math is due Friday so try and master 49 objectives.

Sincerely yours...
Gregoire

May 6... More Conics

Well hello friends! Today we began class with another mental math. One more to go until we get to abolish our two worst! And for us who have missed previous ones we all have a chance to make up for them when it works for us and Mr. Max... possibly tomorrow at lunch??

Anyways after we corrected our mental math our fantabulous teacher did a homework check which was yesterdays example assignment. We went over it as a class then began learning more conics. Today... Hyperbola's

Here are the slides from todays lesson and examples of hyperbolas.

For anyone that may want a little additional information on hyperbola's, I think it would be worth your time to check out http://www.mathwarehouse.com/hyperbola/graph-equation-of-a-hyperbola.php
I found it to be very helpful and hopefully you do to!

Anyways, remember to do your homework as our test is thursday! By for now.

Its Friday!!!

Hey there folks! Today we had half a class as a few of our mates are off kicking some butts in rugby.

Good Luck Girls!!

Everyone that came to class had a chance to finish there 30 accelerated math objectives. Mr. Max taught pretty much all that needed to be taught throughtout this week so there was not anything new today. This made it a work period and gave us a chance to work on our exercises 29 - 33.

Remember to have them done before wednesdays test because there will be a randomized homework check!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and until next time, keep fit and have fun.

Wednesday, March 12

Today in class we continued to learn about triginomic identities and how to solve them. To prove an identity to be true, basically you must try to make the left hand side of the equation equal to the right side. Eight basic techniques to try and solve or simplify an equation to prove its identity are shown below (a-h).

If the left hand side (LHS) equals the right hand side (RHS) then the identity is proved to be true. The correct terminology is shown in the slide below
In order to master the art of proving identities you must practice practice practice! To some, (like myself) it can be very difficult and frustrating which is why it is important to keep up with your exercises and practice. It is important to know that to verify and to prove are similar but not the same. When you are verifying something you finding an identity for a specific case but it does not prove the identity for the whole equation.

Similarily to graphing, verifying cannot be used to prove an identity but you can use it to disprove.

Together we went through a few different problems for proving identities which are shown in the above slides.

Even though today was our deadline for accelerated math, Mr. Max was ever so kind to give us until friday to get done our first nine objectives. So don't forget to get those done by 3:40 friday and for tomorrow have questions 1-9 of exercise 15 to complete.

Thats all for now, so remember, keep your eye on the ball!

By the way happy birthday Cindy Lou!!! Hope you have a good one!

Feb. 11 2008

On friday the 8th, Mr. Maksymchuk explained to us radian measure and went through our homework from the previous day. This allowed us to correct any mistakes we may have made over the weekend. There was no homework assigned for the weekend but we were given a note sheet to catch up on what we may have forgotten from senior three.
Today in class Mr. Max was away and we all posted a blog about our goals for the year. This was assigned to us to better familiarize us with posting our blogs for when we have to be the scribe. Nothing new was taught to us as we had a sub therefore i don't have very much else to say...
Au revoir

Goal Setting

Ahoy Mates (Ahoy mates)

Hey there.. My goal for the year in math is to learn everything well enough to obtain an average of 75 or better. I'm going to have to focus and do homework more regularly than previous years.

Here is a picture of my beloved cookie monster. I hope my average is better than a "c".

While searching the net i found the site.. "http://www.math.com/homeworkhelp/Calculus.html". It is very helpful if you are stuck on your homework. It offers formulas, tables, study tips and test preperation.
